Clothing

When you are in the tropics, you should wear light, bright and airy clothing. The fabric must be able to absorb sweat, which is why materials made from natural fibres are best. Constricting, snug and damp clothing easily cause irritation and yeast infections in the skin.

You can protect yourself from insect bites and intensive solar radiation by using long-sleeved shirts and long trousers.

The temperature can vary considerably between day and night, which is why at times it may be a good idea to take a warm jumper along. Rain clothes, boots and umbrellas may also be practical to have during rainy periods.

Shoes will protect you from hookworm and yeast infections. Do not walk around barefoot!

Respect the local clothing traditions, especially in connection with visits to religious buildings. It may also be appropriate to be more “dressed” when you leave the beach.
